Hr. Frederiksen tasting notes
Hr. Frederiksen was the first beer by Amager Byghus that made it to Ratebeer's Top 50. This American Style Imperial Stout is brewed with a blend of 8 malts and backed by American Centennial hops. Pours a viscous pitch black colour with a small but lasting beige head. Aroma is intense and quite rich based on strong roasted grains, dark espresso, coffee grains, touches of dark chocolate and sweet caramel. Hops don't show up in the aroma, but they’re certainly present in the bitterness. A fantastic melding of roasted and bitter flavors, quite heavy sweet but with a extremely well balanced bitterness. Lots of dark chocolate, vinous notes, slightly tart coffee, hints of vanilla and wood. Aftertaste is bitter and lingering. A great coffee based Imperial Stout.
Imperial Stout is a dark beer, ranging from dark brown to pitch black, and a well-formed head. Aroma and flavour tend to be rich and complex, with presence of roasty malts or dried fruits and touches of coffee, caramel or chocolate. Hop flavour can be from medium to high. Imperial Stout is a good choice for barrel-aging, making the aromas and flavours more balanced and smooth.
