Orval tasting notes
The only beer that Orval Trappist brewery makes for the public. Hazy golden with a huge, solid and lasting white head with some lacing. Bright spicy, fruity aroma with Brett funkiness in the background, and notes of spice, hops, vanilla and herbs. Taste is also complex: slightly sour, with spice and fruit with wet hay earthiness, red berries, dark berries, citrus, alcohol and a bit of toffee caramel at the end. Medium full body with lively carbonation and a refreshing slightly dry finish. Not the classic trappist beer.
A Belgian Ale is a moderately malty, fruity and easy-drinking, amber-colored ale that is less aggressive in flavor profile than many other Belgian beers. They are quite balanced and smooth, and they have the lowest alcoholic character in the Belgian traditional styles. Fairly similar to pale ales from England, and with less yeast character than many other Belgian beers.
