Öö tasting notes

Öö is an Imperial Baltic Porter that was one of the first Põhjala beers to reach Ratebeer's Top 50. Pours pitch black with a soft creamy brown head with pretty good lacing. Lovely and pleasant rich aroma of coffee, caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, dark and red fruits and hints of vanilla. Both bitter and sweet aromas are wonderfully balanced. Taste is less fruity, more roasted, with coffee notes, bitter chocolate in with lots of toasted bitterness, dark bread, roasted barley and red fruits. Sweet and bitter taste dance harmoniously in this Porter.

Baltic Porter mixes the malt flavors of English Porters with the restrained roast of German style smoked beer, and adds a higher ABV. It usually has complex aroma and flavour profiles with caramel, chocolate and/or fruits, with no sourness at all. Taste has a roasted touch and a clean lager character, but is much less roasted than an Imperial Stout.
