Rochefort 10 tasting notes
Rochefort 10 is the top brew from the Rochefort trappists. Pours little bit hazy dark amber with a big beige head and good lacing. Strong aromas of raisins, dried fruits, liquorish sweetness, alcoholic spicyness and hints of red wine and malts. Flavors are complex and subtle at the same time: medium-high sweetness, low-to-medium bitterness, no sourness, roasted malts, caramel, prunes, dark fruits, sour-cherry liquor and notes of yeast and sweet malts. Alcohol is not very noticeable. Very long sweet finish with similar flavors. A complex and very well balanced beer with different layers of flavours.
Quadrupels or Belgian Dark Strong Ales are very complex Belgian ales, sometimes connected with an Abbey or a Trappist monastery. Its appearance range from deep amber to reddish brown. Aromas are rich, with spiciness and malt presence, and hints of fruits. Flavors are as complex as aromas, with malt presence, fruits and some alcohol, and a dry finish. It is more malty than a Dubbel and not as bitter as a Tripel.
