Achel is a Trappist brewery located in the Abbey of Saint Benedict in Hamont Achel (Belgium). It was founded in 1648 by Dutch monks that first build a chapel in Achel. It was rebuilt as an abbey in 1686, and after destroyed during the French Revolution In 1844, Achel was rebuilt with the help of the monks from Westmalle, that started there farming and brewing activities. In 1871, it became a trappist monastery and the first beer brewed there was called Patersvaatje. The brewery was dismantled by the Germans during WWI, and the beer production ceased until 1998, when the monks decided to brew again with the help from monks from Westmalle and Rochefort. Nowadays they sell 6 different kinds of beer.
